We visualize it

Every commission starts on paper. Your stone, your setting, your proportions; drawn in detail and refined until everything feels just right. We are here to guide you through each decision, helping you make informed choices that suit your design, your lifestyle.

Touch it with your hands. See it with your eyes.

Once your design feels right, we offer the option of a 3D render and/or a wax model. Try it on in the studio, see the proportions on your hand, and view your stones in person, in real light.

Up to two rounds of design changes are included, and your first wax model is complimentary.

It is designed for the person wearing it

The finished piece does not just look right, it feels right, it lives well with you. Every detail comes together with intention, from stone choice and setting style to profile, proportions, and durability.

Every Katalyst piece comes with a limited lifetime warranty, maintained through a yearly inspection, so you can feel confident wearing your piece for years to come.

From first conversation to finished piece.

  1. 01

    Meet

A conversation in-studio or digitally about your piece. All we need to get started is your ideas, inspiration, or physical jewellery for re-design.

  2. 02

    Design

We draw or render your piece in detail, and refine it with you until it is just right.

  3. 03

    Wax and stones

We offer stone viewings and the option of a wax model throughout your custom design journey. Stone viewings require a deposit, and your first wax model is complimentary.

  4. 04

    Made by hand

Once the wax is approved your piece is cast, finished and set at the bench by local craftsmen or even the hands that designed it.

Commissions take eight to ten weeks, typically: about four weeks of design and six of making. Inquiries are always commitment-free.

As heard on CBC Radio One

“I want to see the history, because it’ll start making people ask questions like, where does this come from? Why is it this way?”

Ten Thousand Rings

Kat MacLean has designed thousands of rings over more than a decade, creating pieces for some of Calgary’s established jewellery houses. They left the bench carrying other names, but each began with her hand, her eye, and a drawing.

Katalyst marks a new chapter: the first time that work carries her own name. A studio where every piece begins on paper, and is developed with the person who will wear it.
